Fixed scope or monthly retainer

Two pricing models, both quoted in OMR. Here’s how we help clients pick between them.

Fixed scope or monthly retainer

We quote in two ways: a fixed scope for a specific problem with a clear edge, or a monthly retainer when the work is ongoing and the priorities will shift. There’s no third hidden option.

Fixed scope works when

  • You know what “done” looks like before we start.
  • The output is a discrete tool, dashboard, or automation.
  • Internal stakeholders agree on the success metric.
  • We can scope it in one discovery call.

Monthly retainer works when

  • You have a backlog that re-prioritises as you learn.
  • Delivery is continuous, not a launch event.
  • You need someone who keeps context week to week.
  • Best for ongoing product work or operations.

When clients aren’t sure, we usually start fixed for the first deliverable and roll into a retainer once the cadence is clear. That gives both sides a low-stakes start without locking either of us in.
